DESCRIPTION:The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War\, Department of Nebraska\, Welstead Camp No. 3 will conduct a ceremony honoring James Hill\, the Last Union Civil War Soldier buried in Dodge County\, Nebraska. The ceremony will be held at Purple Cane Cemetery\, northwest of North Bend. \nJames Hill was a Private in Co. I\, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry and died April 13\, 1944 at the age of 102. \nDirections: Purple Cane Cemetery is located on County Road P about 13 miles northeast of Schuyler and about 10 miles northwest of North Bend. View Google coordinates. \nThe Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War\, Dept. of Nebraska have started the final phase in our Last Soldier Project. The purpose of the project is to locate and appropriately mark the final resting place of the last Union Civil War Soldier buried in each county in the state of Nebraska.
