Last Union Soldier Project – Nebraska

Beginning in 2003, the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War (SUVCW) embarked on the Last Union Soldier Project. The purpose of the project is to locate and appropriately mark the final resting place of the last Union Civil War Soldier buried in each county and in each state of this great country.

The Department of Nebraska has identified the Last Union Soldier buried in each county in the state of Nebraska and has marked the graves with a bronze star marker, QR code medallion and honored with a ceremony when appropriate. In September 2025, we completed all 93 counties in Nebraska.
