Last Union Soldier – Dawson County Dedication
The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Department of Nebraska, Shiloh Camp No. 2 will conduct a ceremony honoring Charles Musser, the Last Union Civil War Soldier buried in Dawson County, Nebraska. The ceremony will be held at Sumner Cemetery, Sumner, Nebraska. Descendants of this soldier will be in attendance.
Charles O. Musser was a Private in Co. A, 29th Iowa Infantry and died March 10, 1938 at the age of 95. He was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, Bryner Post 314.

The Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Dept. of Nebraska have started the final phase in our Last Soldier Project. The purpose of the project is to locate and appropriately mark the final resting place of the last Union Civil War Soldier buried in each county in the state of Nebraska. We are marking the graves of these veterans with a bronze star marker and QR code medallion. The full list of veterans can be viewed here.
